While it is said that "nobody walks in Los Angeles," we know that everyone walks in San Francisco. Having been a resident and frequent visitor to San Francisco, I can tell you that the very idea of walking in the city always seemed odd to me. Realistically, it is the flattest city in which to walk. Yet that is what everyone does. Walking, gasped, and walk some more. There is something about San Francisco that makes you want to leave your hotel and walk. Maybe it has something to do with the many neighborhoods and buildings fascinating force people to slow down and take it all in.

If you are planning a holiday or vacation in San Francisco, one of the best ways really experience the city, take a walking tour. And when it comes to walking tours, both free and fee required, San Francisco has more than its share (which should have taken some of LA).

Free Walking Tours

First, let's start with free tours offered by city guides San Francisco, a nonprofit organization of over 200 trained volunteers who lead free walking tours in San Francisco (donations, of course, are accepted with taste). If you visit their website sfcityguides.org, you'll see an interesting free walking tours offered every day of the week, tours like "Earthquake 1906 and the Fire, "" Art Deco Marina, "" Chinatown "," City Hall "," Deco center, "" Financial District " and "Gold Coast Architecture." Some of the more interesting walks include:

"Indecent & Naughty"
