Glass transparent to visible light but not infrared?

Why is it that visible light is transparent to the glass and not IR? I I know it is because visible light does not have enough [eV] to knock an electron to the conduction band, but they have even less infrared [eV] that light visible? So therefore you must also pass infrared glass but if not! It helps a lot thanks for the answers!
